Broken passanger car window. Will insurance cover this?

Ипотпал

I live in FL, and I am insured through Geico. The VERY minimum coverage. Just legal to drive basically. I got into my car today and noticed my front passanger window completelty shattered and only held together by the tint. I filed a claim through Geico and they said I wasn’t covered. I remember hearing something about if you live in FL your window is replaced, free. No matter what. Is that for just the windhield, or a myth?
Also, how much does it typically cost to replace side window?

Only comprehensive or collision coverage covers a broken window.

Since you have only the basic coverage for the car the insurance company will not cover this. This would have been covered under Comprehensive coverage if you had taken it.

The cost of the window will be around $1000-$1500- got one just replaced.

Comprehensive coverage is what will cover a broken passenger window. Usually, there is a deductible. Since you spoke to Geico and told you it is not covered, then it is safe to assume that you don’t have this coverage.

Never heard of a company replacing your window for free. Did you hear this from Geico? You may want to ask them again.

Also, you don’t say what the year, make and model of your car is..
I can only assume it is an older vehicle as you are not insuring it for comprehensive and collision. If it’s plain glass, without tint, it can cost any where between $150 – $400…..sounds like the other member on this post got ripped-off. $1,000-$1,500 is way out of line….shop around and you’d be surprised of the difference in prices….stay away from dealers….they don’t give you any kind of break.

    Good Luck!!

In order to have coverage for your glass – you have to purchase comprehensive coverage.

When they say glass is free – that means the comprehensive deductible is waived for glass only losses.

It does not mean they provide coverage you did not purchase.

If you just have the state required coverage – that means you have liability only and do not have comprehensive coverage.

It should be a couple of hundred dollars to get the glass replaced.

whoever told you that if you live in FL you get your glass replaced for free, have them pay the bill.

someone made that up. Do YOU work for free? Nope, me neither. Well, ok, here on YA I do.

You didn’t buy glass (comprehensive) coverage on your policy. YOU have to pay for the replacement window.
