can a insurance company renew my car insurance without consent?
Ипотпалmy insurance ran out for my car in december and the insurance company put a new policy in place and began removing money through direct debit without my consent. i left this proerty shortly before a letter arrived that states they where going to issue me with a new policy.
i never got a chance to reply to this letter until march when i caught up with my post. my worry is that how long would this have continued if i had not caught up with my post another year maybe two “indeffinitly perhaps?”. is there any other bodies i could complain to or any other routes i could go down to take this matter further without having to take legal action. this happened in the- u k
yeah the contract was for 12 months only this was a contract with different price plans
i didn’t notice the money being takin from the account because i live in london and use a different account now the account that was tied with that insurance company was in ireland

unless you cancel it it will automatically renew. this should be in your contract.
In the U.S., they automatically renew unless you tell them otherwise. I don’t know about the U.K.
If you no longer have the vehicle, you can call them and show proof of sale and they’ll refund it. Or, if you purchased other coverage from another company, you can send them proof of coverage and they’ll refund it.
You’ll need to call them though.
First – atleast in the US, the insurance companies always automatically renew a policy unless told not to. Even if you did not receive your mail you should have seen on your bank statement the money being pulled. So why would they continue to renew the policy year after year if you don’t want them to when you see money pulled from the account?
Actually – they are OBLIGATED to renew your policy, unless they take deliberate steps to cancel it.
That is the main issue with electronic funds transfer – even after you cancel the policy, or tell your bank to stop the transfers, it can take 6 weeks for the change to happen, or even never happen.
Yes, it would have renewed indefinately, as long as your account was still funding. In order to cancel an insurance policy, you have to NOTIFY THE INSURANCE COMPANY that you want the policy cancelled. You just can’t let it sit there and hope the company cancels it for you.
Did you notify them to Not Renew????
How come everything is someone else’s responsibility??
that is what they normally do unless you tell them otherwise. Would you be upset if you did not contact them to renew & you wanted them to, & they canceled you?
Ultimately you are responsible for cancelling things like this. (That’s why people tell you not to setup any payments on automatic debit like this!) If they don’t hear from you how are they supposed to know you don’t want their services? Read your contract with them about the automatic debit…bet you anything it says they’ll continue to deduct fees unless you notifiy them.
